About Our Ministry

Letter from our lead minister

Greetings in the glorious name of our Lord Jesus Christ!

I’m Dr. James Henri Cook, Lead Minister of Spirit of Truth Christian Fellowship – World. I want to personally welcome you to our website, whether you are a follower of Jesus Christ or a seeker with questions. Regardless you’re here to read our articles, watch our videos, or simply explore what we share, know this—God’s love has led you here for a reason. You are deeply loved by the Creator of the universe and He wants a personal relationship with you. How you respond to that will have eternal consequences.

As I’ve traveled this beautiful world, I’ve experienced life’s highest joys and its deepest struggles. I have been met with kindness, grace, and generosity—and also with hatred, cruelty, and hardship. But through it all, I have clung to this promise:

“The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him, and He helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise Him.” (Psalm 28:7)

Every blessing and every challenge has been part of God’s refining work, shaping my faith and calling me to serve. And just as God has guided me, He is guiding you, too.

A Call to Strength and Faith

We are not called to stand in our own strength but in the power of the Spirit. The Apostle Paul reminds us:

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power.” (Ephesians 6:10)

True strength is found in a heart surrendered to Christ—a heart willing to love, serve, and shine His light in a broken world. Though we may feel small, we serve a mighty God. And He has given us a mission as vast as His love:

  • To reach the world for Christ
  • To live as examples of His love, grace, forgiveness, and righteousness
  • To show compassion, empathy, and generosity by ministering to the needs of others

We do these things – and call ourselves “Christians” – not because we are perfect or must try to act perfect, but because we are redeemed. His power is made perfect in our weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9), and His grace is sufficient for us all.

A World in Need—And A Hope That Endures

Wherever you live, you can see the need around you—brokenness, pain, and people searching for meaning. But there is hope! “If God is for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31). Just as David faced Goliath, we may seem small in the face of the world’s struggles, but we stand with the Lord of Hosts. Through Him, hearts can be healed, lives can be transformed, and His love can reach even the farthest soul.

And here’s the incredible part: God wants to use you.

Yes, YOU—regardless of where you come from, what you have, or what struggles you’ve faced. By grace through faith, we are called to be His messengers, sharing the hope of salvation with a world that desperately needs it.

How You Can Be Part of This Ministry

We invite you to join us in two simple but powerful ways:

  • Share this message. Read, watch, and listen to our content, then spread it – particularly its message of salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ – far and wide, on social media, in personal conversations, on the bus, on the train . . . wherever God opens a door.

Through the love, inspiration, and power of the Holy Spirit, we can be a great army for Christ—one that knows no borders, no divisions, and no worldly distinctions.

A Final Blessing

“The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn His face toward you and give you peace.” (Numbers 6:24-26). May His presence fill your heart today and always.

With love, strength, and hope,
Reverend James

JHC is a ministry committed to nurturing spiritual growth through teaching, encouragement, and thoughtful admonition for every individual who is or considers themselves be a follower of Christ.

The formation of the R12 Collective is inspired by the series of charges for godly living contained in Romans 12. R12 is a ministry dedicated to cultivating godly manhood. We recognize that too many men, though chronologically adult, remain spiritually and emotionally immature, often masking a deep sense of unrealized potential. Many boys lack positive male role models, growing up without fathers or godly examples. Therefore, R12 Collective’s mission is twofold:

First, we empower men to grow in Christlikeness, equipping them to embrace their God-given identities and live with purpose and integrity. We provide resources and support to help men shed the “shadows” of who they are and become the men they were created to be.

Second, we reach out to troubled youth, offering hope and transformation through the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We create engaging content and support programs designed to lead young people to Christ, disciple them in the Christian faith, and nurture them into lives of abundance and purpose, empowering them to achieve their full potential in Christ Jesus.

History of The Spirit of Truth Christian Fellowship Ministry

The Spirit of Truth Christian Fellowship Ministry was originally founded as Bethel Pentecostal Church. Bethel Pentecostal was established in 1967 by the late H. E. and Lola Esther Dickinson, has been a beacon of faith and community for decades. The legacy of its founding pastor and his wife, rooted in a passion for evangelism, biblical teaching, and spiritual growth, has stood as a testament to the power of unwavering faith.

For over a decade, Pastor Dickinson’s leadership laid the spiritual and organizational groundwork that would enable the church to thrive in the years to come. In 1977, as he retired, the mantle of leadership passed to his son-in-law, Pastor Jackie W. Billingsley, who carried forward that vision with steadfast dedication. For over 40 years, Pastor Billingsley shepherded the church with humility, grace, and wisdom, leaving an indelible mark on the ministry and the lives of those it touched. His retirement in March 2020 marked the end of an era, but also ushered in the dawn of a bold new chapter.

During Pastor Billingsley’s tenure, Bethel Pentecostal became renowned for its powerful, anointed praise and worship services—experiences deeply enriched by the musical gifts of the Billingsley, McKelvin, and Dickinson families. Their voices, along with the congregation’s, came together as one, harmonizing in a message of praise that transcended the limits of human effort. Together, they played pivotal roles in shaping the church’s vibrant musical heritage, creating an atmosphere that was not only spiritually uplifting but transformative.

The music ministry at Bethel was far more than just a collection of melodies and harmonies — it was a sacred expression of shared devotion, rooted in a deep and abiding love for Jesus Christ. That love permeated every note, every chord, every lyric, creating a worship experience that was not only beautiful but incredibly anointed. That love transformed simple words and notes on the pages of hymnals into something eternal and so powerful it echoes in the hearts of countless family, friends, and community members to this day.

The impact of their ministry was undeniable. Congregants and visitors alike were often moved to tears, overwhelmed by a sense of God’s presence in the music. Those who entered feeling burdened or broken found healing and hope, their spirits lifted by the collective worship of a family of believers bound together in Christ’s love. What a powerful testimony it was to the power of what can happen when God’s people come together with one heart, one voice, and one purpose: to glorify and serve Him!

In addition to the music, Pastor Billingsley’s rousing preaching played a vital role in the church’s spiritual life. His sermons, infused with the rich spiritual heritage passed down through the generations, inspired countless individuals to deepen their faith and commitment to serving the Lord. With a deep understanding of Scripture and an exceptional ability to connect with his audience, he challenged members and visitors alike to find salvation in Jesus Christ, to embrace their faith actively by living it every day and to share it with others.

Integral to the leadership and spiritual life at Bethel were the dedicated pastor’s wives, Esther Dickinson and Loretta Dickinson Billingsley. Esther, affectionately known as “Granny” by many, was a force to be reckoned with. Bold and driven, she found resources and practical solutions that were essential to the establishment and operation of the church in its early years. Her heart to help others and introduce them to Jesus helped shape the church’s ministry foundation, although her out-spoken approach, while well-intentioned, could stir controversy from time to time. Nevertheless, her commitment to the ministry and the people of Bethel was unwavering, and her influence was deeply felt.

In contrast, Loretta, while a more reserved and behind-the-scenes pastor’s wife, played a pivotal role as the church’s organist. She served faithfully alongside her husband, Pastor Billingsley, using her talents to encourage and lift others in worship. Loretta’s servant heart extended beyond music: she was a constant helper in whatever capacity was needed, whether it was cooking meals, cleaning, or offering a listening ear. Although Esther and Loretta had very different personalities, gifts, and approaches to their roles, they shared a common goal: to serve the Lord and others by helping their husbands further the ministry of Bethel Pentecostal.

In 2020, upon Pastor Billingsley’s retirement, his daughter, Cindy Billingsley-Cook, stepped into the pastoral role. No one could have predicted what a critical juncture the church had come to at that point. While the world was grappling with unprecedented changes and challenges, Bethel found itself facing a seminal moment in its history: a clear and compelling need to re-examine itself based on rapidly changing circumstances in and outside the church, the urgent need to find a new place to meet in light of safety and liability concerns that were prohibitively expensive to address, and Pastor Cindy’s powerful new outreach and helps-focused vision.

Imbued with a crystal-clear vision, and guided by the Holy Spirit, Pastor Cindy demonstrated extraordinary tenacity and creativity, often swimming against the current of time-honored tradition and habit-bound comfort, as she guided the congregation through a period of significant change. Based on the leading of the Lord, she reimagined the ministry’s nature and scope, breaking free from traditional denominational boundaries to foster a more inclusive, accepting, Christ-centered, outreach-focused community of believers (hence the renaming of the church from Bethel Pentecostal to Spirit of Truth Christian Fellowship). Her leadership reflected a deep commitment to winning the lost to Jesus Christ, sound biblical teaching, and meeting the spiritual and basic material needs of people within and well beyond the church’s walls

One of the most defining moments of Pastor Cindy’s tenure was the Spirit-led decision to transfer the aging church building to Madison Temple Church for a symbolic price of $10. This act of faith was not merely a practical decision—it was a bold declaration of trust in God’s providence. Following much prayer and discernment, the church leadership believed this step would pave the way for the ministry’s renewal. By relinquishing the physical space that had defined the church for decades, Pastor Cindy and her team unlocked the freedom to focus their time and resources solely on evangelical and helps ministry.

In February 2023, Pastor Cindy, having faithfully fulfilled her God-ordained calling, stepped down from her pastoral role. Her husband, Pastor James Henri Cook, was unanimously chosen to lead the church into its next chapter. Continuing on the ministry trajectory established by his wife, Pastor James’ vision was to harness the church’s resources—its “talent, treasure, and time”—to create a meaningful impact not only in the local community but also across the United States and around the world, including Africa, India, and the Caribbean.

Under Pastor James’ leadership, Spirit of Truth Christian Fellowship has undergone a remarkable transformation. Moving beyond the traditional “brick-and-mortar” church model, the ministry has embraced an innovative, collaborative approach to outreach. The focus remains resolutely on sharing the Gospel and winning souls for Christ, but now amplified through modern technology that extends the reach of the church’s voice and talents to a global audience. This vision has led to strategic partnerships with diverse ministries, each sharing a common passion for evangelism and service, allowing for the pooling of resources and talents to achieve goals that would be impossible to reach individually.

Spirit of Truth Christian Fellowship exemplifies a forward-thinking approach to ministry. Through the integration of hybrid outreach models—including online platforms, social media, and creative “insurgency” evangelism—the fellowship utilizes both technology and innovative outreach methods to engage audiences both at home and globally. Strategic partnerships with ministries in the United States, as well as in Africa, India, and the Caribbean, reflect the fellowship’s commitment to transcending denominational, racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic barriers. This initiative is not only about sharing the Gospel but also about creating tangible, life-changing impacts through charitable acts and fostering unity in Christ.

The ministry is supported by a team of talented content creators and ministers who embody creativity, innovation, and a relentless commitment to spreading the light, love, and truth of Jesus Christ. From crafting engaging, Holy Spirit-led content to pioneering new forms of both digital and non-digital outreach, this team is at the forefront of modern evangelism. Their ability to share compelling stories, authentic testimonies, and practical spiritual guidance resonates deeply with both believers and seekers, reaching hearts across the globe.

Today, Spirit of Truth Christian Fellowship stands as a living testimony to the enduring legacies of Pastors Dickinson and Billingsley, as well as the bold, unfolding vision of evangelists James and Cindy Billingsley Cook and Ben and Danabeth Cowles. May God be glorified in all that it does!

Living Your Faith

LIVING YOUR FAITH

Here are 20 key Bible passages that serve as a great guide to living an abundant, content, and consequential life as a follower of Christ:

1. Matthew 22:37-39

"Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself."

Explanation: The greatest commandment is to love God with all our being, and the second is to love others as ourselves. True Christian living starts with love—toward God and others.

2. John 13:34-35

"A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another."

Explanation: Love is the identifying mark of a true disciple. Our love for others should reflect the sacrificial love Jesus demonstrated for us.

3. Romans 12:1-2

"I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God."

Explanation: Christian living involves offering our whole lives to God and resisting the pressures of worldly values, allowing our minds to be renewed by Him.

4. Matthew 5:14-16

"Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."

Explanation: Christians are called to live in a way that visibly reflects God’s goodness, drawing others to Him through our actions.

5. Philippians 4:6-7

"Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."

Explanation: Christians are to live with prayerful trust, bringing all concerns to God and receiving His peace in return.

6. Galatians 5:22-23

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law."

Explanation: A Christian’s life should be characterized by the Holy Spirit’s work in us, producing virtues that reflect Christ’s character.

7. Ephesians 4:1-3

"I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, with all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace."
Explanation: We are called to live humbly, patiently, and in unity with fellow believers, keeping the peace through love.

8. 1 Peter 1:15-16

"But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy."

Explanation: As God’s people, we are called to live holy lives, reflecting God’s purity in everything we do.

9. Luke 6:31

"And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise."

Explanation: The Golden Rule reminds us to treat others with the same kindness, respect, and fairness we desire from them.

10. Romans 13:8-10

"Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law. For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law."

Explanation: Love is the fulfillment of all the law, as it leads us to honor and care for others in practical ways.

11. James 1:22

"But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves."

Explanation: Christianity is not just about knowing Scripture but actively living it out. Genuine faith is seen in our actions.

12. Matthew 7:24-27

"Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock."

  • “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” – Ephesians 2:8-9
  • “I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” – John 10:10

Scriptural Support:

  • “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.” – Matthew 28:19
  • “Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.” – 1 John 4:7

Sin is any thought, word, or action that goes against God’s will. It separates us from God, but through Jesus Christ, we can be forgiven and restored.

No. Christianity is about grace, not legalism. While Christians follow God’s commands, salvation is a gift from God, not earned by works.

Scriptural Support:

  • “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.” – 2 Timothy 3:16
  • “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” – Psalm 119:105
  • Why do Christians go to church?

Church is a community where believers worship God, grow spiritually, encourage one another, and serve others. Church should never be about “have to”, but about being part of a loving community of believers in whose company you feel enthusiastically welcomed, unconditionally accepted, wonderfully cared for, and among people you can count on through thick and thin, 24/7, 365 days a year!

Scriptural Support:

  • “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another.” – Hebrews 10:25

  • Are all Christians perfect?

Absolutely not. Christians are forgiven but still imperfect. They are on a journey of spiritual growth, striving to become more like Christ through the help of the Holy Spirit. We have all needed grace and will continue to need it until the day we go to be with the Lord. (And if you think there are a lot of hypocrites in church . . . you are correct. Just keep these things in mind: 1) there are a lot of hypocrites everywhere you go, and 2) are you going to let those folks deny you the wonderful blessings the right church body can provide you?)

Scriptural Support:

  • “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.” – 1 John 1:8
  • “Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.” – Philippians 1:6
  • Is Christianity the only way to God?

Yes. Jesus declared that He is the only way to God. Salvation comes through faith in Him alone.

Scriptural Support:

  • “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” – John 14:6
  • “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” – Acts 4:12
